ANTI-OPPRESSION FACILITATION
Community building is an act of radical love and resistance, but it’s not without its challenges.
The wounds of systemic oppression and intergenerational trauma can show up in subtle ways, often affecting how we commune, collaborate, and care for each other, which often leads to us replicating the oppressive dynamics within our communities that we’re trying to change out in the world.
My anti-oppression facilitation offers a space for teams, affinity groups, Employee Resource Groups and activist collectives to engage in deep reflection, so we can identify what’s getting in the way of us fully embodying our collective values and using our insights to create new possibilities for justice, organisational change, and liberation.
As a social change trainer and Focalizing Practitioner, I blend impactful strategy development with trauma-informed, somatic practices that allow us to acknowledge the pain of oppression, create space for healing, and build momentum for effective action.
What I Will Bring to Your Team
Aligning Practice with Liberatory Values: I will support you to reflect deeply on how your work aligns with your values, and co-create frameworks for carrying out your mission in a more authentic, intentional way that reflects the collective vision you hold and the world you want to create.
Focalizing and Trauma-Informed Practices: I create grounding and nurturing spaces for you to process the impacts of systemic and intergenerational trauma, and access the creativity needed to create communities of resistance and collective action.
Conflict Transformation: I offer frameworks that centre repair, accountability, and collective healing, helping you navigate conflict with compassion and care.
Regenerative Social Change: I’ll support you to address burnout, centre care, and foster a culture of resilience, allowing your group to thrive.
I bring to this work years of experience from organisations such as Purpose Union, Campaign Bootcamp, NUS, Time to Change, and Rethink Mental Illness, where I developed a nuanced understanding of how to navigate complex systemic and organisational dynamics in ways that foster transformative change.
I’ve learned from transformative training programmes such as A Space for Us with Michelle C. Johnson and Stephanie Ghoston Paul, social action training from Training for Change, and Daring Compassion Movement Chaplaincy by Faith Matters Network.
The teachings I’ve received from movement leaders shape how I support teams in navigating the complexities of working together while staying rooted in integrity and care.
Why This Matters
Liberation starts with us. By creating a culture of compassion and alignment, we can heal together and build powerful movements that are grounded in joy, care, and collective strength.
If you’re ready to explore how we can create new possibilities for your collective, let’s connect.
In solidarity and liberation,
Karen
